OUR 2018 CHERRY SEASON IS NOW OVER … see you next summer!
Our season usually opens late November until mid December.
Pick your own is open on on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings from 7:30am in season.
Our farm packed cherries are on sale at the farm on picking days until sold out, from our Cherry Express deliveries around north west NSW and Sydney and through fundraisers cherry drives (in 2018 we helped schools and a drought relief group raise funds with a healthy cherry drive – contact us if you’d like to start planning one for 2019!).
Follow us on Facebook or instagram @rothfamilyorchard or SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHERRY CHATTER newsletter to receive an update of the season in your mailbox. We’ll let you know when we open for pick your own and our delivery schedule.
Visit our farm on weekend mornings in season to pick your own juicy, sweet cherries or buy them freshly picked and packed at the farm or from our Cherry Express. Please check before you plan to visit us as it all depends on the cherries!
Our premium quality cherries are ripe usually from the last week of November to mid-December. Look to our Facebook page rothfamilyorchard for updates – each season depends on the weather so be sure to check in to see when the fruit is ripe.
Cherries packed on farm are sold direct through farmers markets, at the orchard, through school fundraiser drives and regional deliveries. Cherries for wholesale domestic and export markets go through a packhouse off-farm.
PICK YOUR OWN We open the gates for pick-your-own Friday – Monday mornings in season (7:30 am – 1pm) and love seeing families enjoy the orchard. Best to come early in the morning as this is when cherries are at their best – before the days’ heat sets in. These days are often run in collaboration with local volunteers raising funds for Mudgee community groups. Bring a bucket/ bags to take your cherries home. If travelling a long distance we also suggest an esky to keep the cherries cool.
We grow 5 varieties, ripening over just 3 weeks each year:
- Sambas – big and beautiful – last week of November
- Rons – Black and sweet – late November/early December
- Vans – Red & tasty – early December
- Black Star – dark, firm and full of flavour – early December
- Simone – very tasty, red to mahogany – second week of December
Our cherry orchard was planted in 2008 and 2009 in the Eurunderee region of Mudgee. Irrigated from Pipeclay Creek it is just upstream of where Adam and Katherina Roth planted Mudgee’s first wine grapes in 1858 and grew orchard fruits and fresh vegetables, supplying the Gulgong gold rush.
PHOTOGRAPHY LOCATION – the orchard and picturesque former church are available for photography by prior arrangement.
